About Us

Hello Chicken Lovers, Strangers

I am Max and I am the face behind Orpington Chicken. It is obvious that if you are at this place, there is no way you are not a big fan of these fluffy, clucky creatures myself and other members of this community are. Allow me to bring you all a bit of the taste of my life and my passion for Orpington chickens.

How Did I Get Here

Something such as this did not come about the way I expected it at all; not at a flea market. I found such a picture book “The Orpington Chicken: A Guide to Raising and Caring for Orpingtons” by Paul K. Smith. Little did I know, this book was about to change all my life. I consumed it cover to cover and the desire grew more still. I just simply had to learn everything about these captivating animals.

Going Further

Book knowledge was not enough for me. Instead, I sought information in scientific journals, The Poultry Site, BackYard Chickens and even took online courses at Coursera and Udemy. I was determined to be the top Orpington chicken keeper.

Hands-On Experience

With this background knowledge, I made my first simple and warm little house in the yard for the first Orpington flock. Day in, day out enjoyed giving, and getting value to and from them. I can sit and only watch their health, behaviors and egg productions for long hours and record all the details. It was delightful to see them prospering.

Breeding and Hatching

In my endless quest, I ventured into the amusing area of breeding. My goal was to enhance the egg-laying ability, and the color of the feathers. Hatching the eggs was something thrilling – I still remember how astonished I was when I first saw the tiny baby fowls popping out of the eggs. It was like magic.

Health and Nutrition

There is no chicken without cheerfulness if that chicken is healthy. Out of Australia leapt the study of Poultry Health and Nutrition. People knew the basics of Poultry health and diseases and their management. Meeting their feed requirements considering their stages of life was now in records as nutrition for survivorship.

Forming a Platform

Being aware of the importance of the knowledge gained from other owners, I got active in poultry organizations such as American Poultry Association (APA) and the Orpington Club of Great Britain. It was a lot of fun to go to shows and exhibitions, to exhibit your birds, to gain experience from professional breeders and to keep abreast of the events.

Guidance and Helping

In those communities, I also had a mentor, Sarah, who was an experienced Orpington breeder. Her help was worth its weight in gold. As I gained certainty and competence, I also had the opportunity to guide new practitioners in their fight to become practitioners. It is quite a pleasurable activity to be able to assist people, who have given so much to you.

Creating New Ideas and Responsibility

I strive to remain proactive rather than reactive and as such, do as much as I can to keep abreast with new trends and developments pertaining to poultry science. Embracing eco-friendly and sustainable farming practices means that my methods do not only repay me with birds, but they also favor the ecology.

Recounting My Experience

I didn’t just sit idle without exploiting my talents. I began to author poultry magazine articles as well as puzzled how to create this blog to even share my experience with others, in value-added manner. The use of these channels grew tremendously and I started producing educational content on YouTube for the wider world. These channels enabled me to help a large audience with my experience, advice, and knowledge.
